Elie Saab played to his strengths for his spring 2011 couture collection. He sent one gorgeous gown after another down the catwalk and even included a few dresses with shorter hemlines. While this is hardly new territory for the couturier, the clothes were "breathtaking." The silhouettes were classic and the embroideries were intuitive, but the collection was hardly matronly and almost never prude. A subtle sexy managed to come through all those delicate flower petals and pretty pinks, but it wasn't a complicated look; it was the kind of look that Hollywood starlets are likely to fight over come Oscar night, and that's hardly a novel idea for Mr. Saab.
