The rainy season of Spring is fast approaching (or at least that's what I keep telling myself) and style socials need to be fashionable in every aspect. Make a statement in the rain with this stand out umbrella by Alexander McQueen. The domed shape makes for a dramatic aesthetic and does a better job of keeping the rain away than your standard umbrella. The skull handle may not be as practical for holding but it certainly looks cool. It could have been all yours (or mine) for a mere $509 @ zappos, but sadly the item is sold out.

This is what you call a statement shoe. It's futuristic but it also has a tribal feel courtesy of the contrasting geometric lines. It would be a real challenge to work this into a look but I'm up for it.

I'm thinking roomy distressed denim short cutoffs with a loose racerback tank, maybe a cropped sleeve extra-long gray cardigan or a boyfriend blazer w/ scrunched sleeves, a wrist full of bangles and a few layered gold necklaces.

Riccardo Tisci opts for a more understated slate in creating Givenchy's Pre-Fall collection for 2010. Instead of oversized and excessive embellishments, the designer looks to sharp tailoring immersed in a monochromatic palette with a few frills and tons of texture which makes for lots of thrills.

Perfect for a formal luncheon on an April afternoon in NYC. Most of the pieces are pretty busy so opt for minimal make up and easy hair (think soft curls pulled back into a loose/messy bun) to complete the look.

If you haven't noticed, I have a bit of a jewelry obsession. My taste has a pretty wide range from simple small timeless pieces to outlandish ostentatious debauchery. This time around, I'm highlighting the work of Delfina Delettrez. She has an illustrious family connection to fashion with maternal relatives named Fendi and a well known French jeweler for a father. She continues that legacy designing pieces rooted in a darkened romantic anatomical aesthetic. Here's a preview of the Spring 2010 collection

I'm not really a big fan of the Yeah, Yeah Yeah's but I am very impressed with the art direction in this video. The vivid red glitter as blood is mesmerizing. I feel inspired.

For the Louis Vuitton's Pre-Fall collection, Marc Jacobs decided to leave much (but not all) of the fun and games in the last season's collection. Instead of Afros and flat clogs, models donned long luscious locks with sky-high sandals and copious amounts of fur for a much more polished look.

It never fails. I come home; tune into VH1Soul (my favorite channel) and this "disaster" of a video wrapped in catchy melodies, and Joyce Leslie styling comes barreling through my flat screen in HD. I love(d) Angie Stone and I applaud diversions from the standard formula, but I urge Ms. Stone not to fall victim to the misguided sycophants no doubt standing off-camera screaming, "Get it, Gurl," and "Fierce, Huney!" Someone put an end to this blasphemy! Now grab a paper bag and watch the video.

V Magazine is kicking off the new year with issue devoted to the fashion industry's obsession with bodies. Befittingly dubbed the size issue, the mag features spreads shot by Terry Richardson and the Kaiser himself, Karl Lagerfeld, and a much blogged about spread with two models, one plus size and one "standard," modeling the same looks; not to mention two covers with Dakota Fanning and Gabourey Sidibe (Precious) respectively. The latter of which reminded me of an episode of ANTM. At any rate the issue is garnering quite a bit of press and anticipation is building; think Vogue Italia's "Black Issue". The mag hits stands January 14th. In the meantime check some snippets of what you can expect.
