Same Ol' Mistakes [Going with What I Always Longed For]

As someone who decided in an instant to boycott "reality" television a few years ago, I would hardly characterize myself as a big fan of TV in general, but there's been a recent uptick in my TV consumption, and frankly I'm overwhelmed with all the shows I need to keep up with now. #FirstWorldProblem. In between Jane, The Virgin, Scandal, Game Of Thrones, not to mention the news coverage of President Trump, I became addicted to BET's Being Mary Jane. Side-note: if you don't already watch any of those shows, get started and block off your calendar for a day or two. BMJ, while wildly entertaining, is far from perfect and that detail has become my favorite aspect of the show. The title character, played by Gabrielle Union is probably the most realistic representation of a human being I have ever seen on TV. Like most people IRL, it takes her a few times to learn the same lesson and she's certainly no stranger to hypocritical paradoxes; she's simultaneously equal parts delusional and self-aware, proving that said attributes are, in fact, not mutually exclusive. But more than that, the series and characters hit dangerously close to home for me. On the surface, MJ's life is picture perfect, but behind the scenes..? Let's just say, "the struggle is real." It serves as a great example of the age-old cliche that the grass is not always greener; a lesson I've needed to learn more than once.

But don't worry - this isn't a PSA advocating complacency. This is an honest, unfiltered rejection of the external ideals that society attempts to have us internalize. I will no longer consume this Percocet-laced, molly-infused shit pie covered in Dolce & Gabbana diamonds. I am on a fucking diet! I'm trimming the fat, I'm packing on some muscle. But I will allow myself two cheat-meals per week. I write all this to simply state, that my blog is coming the fuck back, bitches, and in a major way. In addition to fashion, I'll be exploring new areas of interest - politics, business, art, etc. Virtually no topic will be off limits. I'll do my research, but I anticipate a fair amount of my musings will be visceral. I also expect that sometimes I'll get it wrong, but that's OK. Practice makes perfect. While I plan the relaunch, I encourage you to delve into the archives. Enjoy!
