Touch the SKY [GIVENCHY SPRING 2011 COUTURE]

As The Lust for Luxury continues, couture seems a natural subject to present.  Amidst huge productions, elaborate sets, and armies of models, Riccardo Tisci presents a mere 10 exits in a gilded salon for Givenchy's spring couture show, much like he did for fall. While "less is more" for the presentation, more is certainly more when it comes to the actual collection. The glitzy bone motif from last season has been replaced with crane motifs and more subdued, yet still intricate, bead work. The most notable theme of the collection, however, was contrast. The palette was largely muted from the front, but each garment featured a bold contrasting color on the back ranging from orange to yellow to fuchsia. The colors added a much appreciated modern edge to the pieces. The futuristic Philip Treacy headdresses, however, seemed out of place.  Enjoy.
